After midnight, lots of alchemists will be transmuting their truegold and throwing it on the AH, drastically increasing the supply and driving the prices down ie from 2. As the supply dwindles by the end of the day, the prices should shoot right back up and thus creating the optimal time to sell.

In this case the alchemist will probably charge a fee say 50 g for a transmute spec, depending on your server. If you do not specifically ask for a specialized alchemist in trade, then the alchemist gets to keep the procs. In both cases the alchemist makes money. The first has steady income whereas the second is volatile; the second is subject to variability in both proc numbers and market value.
